Obituary Condolences

Grace Towner passed away peacefully at her daughter's home at the age of 87 on Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Branchburg, New Jersey. She was born in Elgin, Illinois to Anton and Ethel (Forgan) Szosz. She was a lifelong resident of Elgin graduating from Elgin High School Class of 1944. She then earned a Bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1948. She worked for DuPont Chemical Company in Michigan. She returned to Elgin, accepting a position as a chemist at the Elgin National Watch Company where she worked for many years. She later worked for her husband's Elgin dental practice, F. William Towner, DDS whom she married in 1957. Grace loved to travel with her husband and children, she traveled to all 50 states of America and many exotic countries. She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, and she enjoyed knitting. Grace was a lover of music and was a supporter of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. She was a active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the PTA, PEO for over 50 years, AAUW (American Association of University Women), Matheans,Travel Class, Jr. Service Board and Searchers. She is survived by her loving children Sarah (Gary) Helm of Branchburg, NJ and Paul (Lynette) Towner of Washington, IA. Fond grandmother of Matt Helm, Ruth Towner, Emily Helm and Rose Towner. She is preceded in death by her loving husband F. William Towner, DDS on September 30, 1996 and her dear sister June Zimmerman. Visitation Friday, January 24, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin, IL. Lying in state Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division Street, Elgin, IL from 9:00 A.M. till time of funeral services 10:00 A.M. Pastor Olin K. Sletto, officiating. Interment will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin IL. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Elgin Historical Society appreciated.
