NAPERVILLE - Wayne E. Thomas, 82, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1977, formerly of Dixon, IL, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Tabor Hills Healthcare Center in Naperville after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born May 4, 1931 in Dixon, IL. Beloved husband of the late Frances "Fran" Thomas (nee Sorn), whom he married October 8, 1955 and who preceded him in death August 17, 1992, loving father of Steven (Vivian) Thomas of Chicago, Lorie (Dan) Martin of Glastonbury, CT and Susan (Tim) Witzig of Wildwood, MO, adored grandfather of Franklin Thomas; Wesley and Eric Martin; Tyler (Joanna), Hannah and Adam Witzig; devoted son of the late Crawford and Genevieve Thomas. Wayne grew up in Dixon, IL and was a 1949 graduate of Dixon High School. He received his bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Champaign and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. After his military service ended in 1955, Wayne began a long career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1990. Wayne was a talented musician who could play the bass, piano, flute and was a longtime member and principal bassist of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club, volunteered at Edward Hospital in Naperville and was active in the Naperville Squares square dancing group. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, playing bridge and spending time with his family in Plum Lake, WI. Visitation Friday, February 28, 3:00-8:00 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Additional Visitation Saturday, March 1, 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Rd., Naperville. Funeral Services Saturday, 10:30 A.M. at the church. A luncheon reception will follow at the church after funeral services. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to DuPage Symphony Orchestra, P.O.
