1926 - 2014 Obituary Condolences Flowers
LIBERTYVILLE - Ernest R. Cunningham Jr. passed away June 13, 2014, at his home. He was born May 22, 1926, to Ernest and Maude Cunningham in Adair, Missouri. Ernest graduated from the University of Missouri with a Master's Degree in Agricultural Engineering. Coming from a farming family in rural Missouri, he was the first to attend college. He was able to achieve this level of education by serving in the US Navy and obtaining financial assistance from the GI Bill. He valued his college experience and encouraged all his children and grandchildren to seek higher education. Ernest married Frances J. Drury in 1950. They moved to the Chicago area in 1952 and settled in Libertyville shortly thereafter. Ernest had a variety of careers, from manufacturing to engineering design to technical editing. Eventually, he and Frances founded the family-owned businesses Grip-Pak Retail, Inc. and Poly-X-Trusion, Inc. to manufacture and distribute products based on some of his numerous patents. Ernest was preceded in death by Frances, his wife of 51 years. Surviving are his 4 children: Teresa (Robert) Kvietkauskas of Carlisle, MA, Cheryl (Sidney) Levine of Chicago, IL, Stuart Cunningham, DDS of Hopkinton, NH, and Brenda (Tim Manns) Cunningham of Mount Vernon, WA; and grandchildren, Anne and John Pauler, and Ross and David Heyman. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but would appreciate contributions in memory of Ernest's late wife Frances to organizations that provide books for young readers, such as Open Books or your local library. Family services were held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. Info, 847-362-3009 or sign the guestbook at www.burnettdane.com.
