Dees, John William - Sylacauga  
Funeral service for John William Dees, 82, will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 12 noon at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Brother Darren Holland officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Dees passed away February 26, 2015 at his residence. He is preceded in death by granddaughter, Katrina Dees. He was a member of Broadway Church of Christ. He served in the Army and National Guard and retired from Kimberly-Clark after 32 years. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Dees; son, Mike Dees and wife, Kathy; daughters, Cindy Crocker and husband, Mark, Kelli Frederick and husband, Donny; brothers, Don Dees and wife, Myra, Jerry Dees and wife Linda; grandchildren, Matthew Crocker, Jill Crocker, Alan Dees, Wesley Dees, Carlie Frederick, Nicholas Frederick; great grandchild, Landon Crocker. Visitation will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 11-12 at Curtis and Son North Chapel. Downer Sr., Odis - Talladega  
Funeral services for Mr. Odis Downer Sr., age 84, will be Saturday at Noon at Mt. Cannan Baptist Church. Dr. Horace L. Patterson will officiate & burial with military honors will be in Antioch Cemetery. Survivors are 4 sons, Johnny Millender of Atlanta, GA, Odis Downer Jr. (Brenda) of Talladega, Lee Earley Downer of Gainesville, FL, and Christopher Downer (Joann) of Detroit, Mich, and Preston Downer of Oxford; 6 daughters, Hattie (Leroy) Patterson of Talladega, Priscilla Downer of Gainesville, FL, Vanessa Downer of Gainesville, FL, Veronica Downer Gillian (Harry) of Eastaboga, Jewel Holt, Raephine Truss (Dewey) both of Talladega; 27 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Mr. Downer was a US Army veteran of World War II. In 1971 he moved to Gainesville, Florida and was employed with the University of Florida and retired after 25 years of service. He was a resident of Talladega Healthcare Center for 8 years. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

Garrett, Thomas Paul - Talladega  
Funeral service for Thomas Paul Garrett, age 73, will be Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Apostolic Church of Promise with Overseer Ben Howard Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill A.O.H. Cemetery in Alpine. Mr. Garrett passed away March 2, 2015 in Stone Mountain, GA. He was a 12 year Veteran. He went to Talladega Training School. He was preceded in death by his mother, Estell Garrett Jackson and Sister, Evangeline Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Ballard Garrett Atlanta, GA; daughter, Sabrina Garrett Brown; stepson Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Jackson, all of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, two aunts, and a host of cousins and friends. Visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The repast will be at the home of Mrs. Beatrice S. Garrett. Westview Funeral Home will direct the services.

Haynes, Lexie Mae (Harper) - Pell City  
Mrs. Lexie Mae (Harper) Haynes passed away at 8:10 pm, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Meadowview Nursing Center in Pell City, AL., at the age of 86. Mrs. Haynes was preceeded in death by her mother, Lilla Bell (Abbott) Harper, her father, William Oliver Harper; three sisters: Ruby Lucille (Harper) Watkins, Ara (Harper) Brown and Willa Faye (Harper) Maye; one brother, William Oliver Harper Jr and one granddaughter, Rhonda Stewart. Also included in this list are husbands, Theo Willard Morrell and Marvin Edward Haynes. Mrs. Haynes is survived by four children: Judith Ann (Morrell) Stewart with husband Raymond Stewart, Jerry Wayne Morrell with wife Rita Olive Morrell, Joan Elaine (Morrell) Ballard and Jeffery Allen Haynes. There are nine grandchildren: Jeri Lynn, Timothy, Regina, Amber, Amanda, Janet, Robin, Ronny and Brandy. There are sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Haynes was born in Vincent, Alabama on October 5, 1928 and lived all of her life in Alabama. She was loved by all that knew her and was a very devoted mother, loving grandmother, loyal sister, best friend and faithful Christian. Mrs. Haynes was a member of the Vandiver Church of God, Vandiver Alabama in Shelby County. The visitation will be held at Usrey Funeral Home, 21271 US-231 North, Pell City, Alabama, from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, March 6, 2015. Funeral services will be held at the Vandiver Church of God, 13479 County Road 43, Vandiver, AL 35176, beginning at 12:00 pm, Saturday, March 7, with a grave side service to follow at Edgemont Cemetery, 2501 McClellan Blvd,, Anniston, AL 36201. RAGLAND – Memorial services for Jennifer Dale St. John Henry, 37, of Ragland, will be Monday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at the Usrey Chapel. Rev. Ted St. John will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Ms. St. John Henry will lie in repose 45 minutes prior to the service. She died Friday. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Ann Miller St. John; her son, Jackson Scott Henry; her sister, Trina St. John; and nieces Alexia Cole Weber and Lauren Kelly Weber. She is preceded in death by her father, James Ray St. John; and her sister, Sabrina St. John.

Herd, Roger Kenneth "Randy" - Munford  
Funeral service for Roger Kenneth "Randy" Herd, 62 of Munford will be Tuesday March 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Usrey Funeral Home. Billy Hayes will officiate and burial will be in the Munford Cemetery on Jennifer Rd. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 till service time at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega. Mr. Herd passed away at his home March 1, 2015. He is preceded in death by mother Gerilyn Stringfellow and father, Marvin "Coot" Herd. Native of Talladega and longtime resident of Munford. He was a member of Munford Church of Christ. He loved camping and the beach and was a history and genealogy buff. He loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Nell Stephens Herd, daughter, Kelly Nicole Herd (Chris Smith), grandson, Kameron Joseph Brock, brothers, David Herd (Rebecca), James "Bear" Heath and Joseph Herd and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Horton passed away March 4, 2015 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Horton. He proudly served his country and retired from the US Army after 20 years of service having attained the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He is survived by his sons, Charles Horton (Beth), Kenneth Horton (Lesia), James Horton; daughter, Terri McDonald (Brian); sister-in-law, Mary Cheeks; four grandchildren; one great grandchild. Funeral service for Roy Glenn Jackson, age 76 will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Ragland First Baptist Church with Bros. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ausie and Clara Jackson. He was a member of James D. Truss Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was a member of Ragland First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He retired from National Cement and served honorably in the US Navy. He is survived by his wife, Sharyn Jackson; sons, Rodney Jackson, Alan (Teresa) Jackson; brothers, Joel M. Jackson, Terry Jackson; brother-in-law, Tom Mars; grandchildren, Bailey Jackson, K'Leigh Jackson, Derek and Kevin Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Randall Dorsett.
