Funeral service for Mrs. Elvira Cooper Russell, 99, will be Friday, July 5, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Radney-Smith Chapel with Bro. Rick Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Childersburg, AL. Mrs. Russell died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Sylacauga Health and Rehab. She was preceded in death by her husband John Franklin Russell and all of her siblings except her sister, Mrs. Clarrine King. She was a loving and beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Sylacauga. She was also a member of the Chapter of Eastern Star of Sylacauga. Mrs. Russell was actually born in a hollow near the banks of Paint Creek in Marble Valley, AL one year prior to the impoundment of Lay Lake in 1914. Her grandfather was a U.S. Army Captain serving in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and went on to settle Coosa Valley. His grave site is close to Union Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Russell's parents and some siblings are interred at Talladega Springs Cemetery. She is survived by her sons, John Robin Russell of Auburn, AL and David Wade Russell and wife, Martha B. Russell of Macon, GA; granddaughters, Cellina Vladyka of Macon, GA, Gabrielle Russell Brown of Ladson, SC; grandsons, Zak Cooper Russell of Kernersville, NC and sister, Clarrine King of Trussville, AL. Visitation will be Friday, July 5, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.
