TALLADEGA- Funeral service for Horace Glenn Bates, Sr., 78, will be Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 2:00pm at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Washington and Bro. Bert Broome officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Bates went home to be with his heavenly father on Monday December 10, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Beverly Bates, Brothers, William "Buck" Bates and Marion "Shorty" Bates, and sister, Virginia "Sister" Bates Love. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy "Dot" Patterson Bates, Daughters, Amy Bates VanDeMark, Kathy Bates McCombs, Rita (David) Brown, Cindy Bates (Sammy Kelley), Tracey Bates (Dabo Gallahare), Glenda "Tater" (Wade) Eason, BB (Davey) Campbell; son, Horace "Glenn" Bates Jr. (Pamela); Brothers, Alton (Pat) Bates and Jimmy (Christine) Bates, and sister, Sarah (Cramer) Dearman; Grandchildren, Holly, Stephanie, Brad, Jesse, Seth, Amelia, Selena, Casey, Keri, Jonathon, Kevin, Jaci, Joseph, Nicholas, Bradley, Brandon, and Corey; Great-grandchildren, Haley, Kaley, Alyssa, Blaze, Justis, Faith, Caleb, Savannah, Shane with 2 on the way; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Bates was a lifelong resident of Talladega and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company after 32 years of service, Veolia Environmental Service after 17 years, and Brecon Knitting Mill. He enjoyed playing with his grandbabies and spending time with his family and friends for many years. He also enjoyed farming, riding his tractor, and listening to Southern Gospel Music. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Brad Hutto, Jonathon Sizemore, Kevin Sizemore, Joseph Eason, Corey Davis, Bradley Bates, Tim Bowman, and Nathan Brewster. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons, Brandon Bates, Jesse Brown, Seth Brown, Blaze Brewster, Justis Brewster, Caleb Parker, Shane Sizemore, and Drew Robinson. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm tonight at the funeral home. Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.
