William Lane Owings

William Lane Owings, 80, of McDonough, GA, passed away, Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Christian City after undergoing a yearlong battle with cancer. Born and raised in Talladega, Alabama, he relocated to Daytona Beach Florida, where he served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years. While attending First Baptist of Daytona, he met his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Solana Owings. He also leaves behind his son, Ronnie Owings and his wife Kathy, his daughter Donna Owings Lipscomb and her husband Scott. He has five grandchildren who were the love of his life: Seth and Bethany Owings and Cara, Zoe, and Chloe Lispscomb. Also surviving is his brother, Norris Owings, Pell City, Alabama. Lane was an entrepreneur; buying, selling and trading. Most of his career was as a food broker. After retiring from T&M Brokerage Company in Atlanta, Lane became a land developer on Lake Wedowee in Wedowee, Alabama. Lane was an active member at Jonesboro First Baptist Church. He was passionate about the Cuban ministry sponsored by the church. He ministered in Cuba yearly for the past 5 years. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations to be made to Jonesboro First Baptist - Cuban Ministry, PO Box 773, Jonesboro, GA 30237. The Funeral service will be held at Jonesboro First Baptist Church, on Tuesday October 22 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Owings will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Rev. Irvin Pearre and Rev.
