Zack Franklin Garrett

Zack Franklin Garrett expired at home, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the age of 84. He was born September 13, 1929 in Alpine, AL to Mary Ball and John Shelly Garrett. Zack was honorably discharged after serving two years in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. On January 19, 1952 he married Beulah Mae Swain and to that union one child Despo Yvonne Garrett. He lived in Alpine all his life where he worked at Kimberly Clark Corp. where he was a crew leader until retiring after 38 years in 1988. Zack was a lifetime member of the American Veterans and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents John and Mary Garrett, siblings Gloria Tolbert, Elbert Garrett and maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Beulah of 61 years, daughter Yvonne, College Park, GA, granddaughters Nichole Sherrill (Courtland Atkins), Smyrna, GA and Brittny Malbrue (Christopher), College Park, GA; great grandchildren, Marlee Nichole Atkins, Bryce Zachary Malbrue, Blake Christopher Malbrue and Maximus Lamar Atkins; sister Mary Wilson, brothers Sollie (Evelyn), Joe (Emily) Garrett all of Alpine, AL and Cleophus Garrett (Rainey), Florida, a sister-in-law who he raised like a daughter Bertha Swain of Jonesboro, GA and a myriad of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 12, 2013, 2:00 pm at King's Chapel Congregational United Church of Christ, 4467 King's Chapel Road, Alpine, AL. Interment with military rights will be in cemetery adjourning church. Pallbearers: Darius Ball, Vaughn Reynolds, Edsel Swain, Larry Swain, Michael Swain, Tracy Strickland. Honorary Pallbearers: Jerry Collins, Warren Green, Lanier Volunteer Fire Department, Marvin Miller, Archie Wesley. Officiating services will be Reverends Terry Swain, Tiffani Steljamin and Van T. Welch. Ronald Sims of Sim's Funeral Home, Talladega, AL will handle funeral arrangements. The family request no flowers.
