James Walter Johnson, 84, of Cullman, Alabama died on August 24, 2013 of lung cancer. Jim previously resided in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was born in Cullman County on January 19, 1929 to Vernie Johnson and Zula Guthrie Johnson. He graduated from Cullman High , where he was the captain of the football team, and Auburn University. James Walter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Johnson is survived by three children: Ray Johnson of Sylacauga, AL; Teresa Johnson Prestridge of Huntsville, AL; and Julia Johnson of Highlands Ranch, CO., as well as 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Childs Johnson, in 2010. Mr. Johnson donated his body to University of Alabama in Birmingham for research. No services will be held at this time, but in memory of the deceased, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to the
