A memorial service for James Robert Bailey, 78, of Alexander City, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3 in the chapel of Bass Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Bass and Minister James Cullins will officiate. Mr. Bailey passed away on Feb. 28 at his residence. He was born in Talladega County on March 6, 1934, to Vernie Bailey and Myrtle Smith Bailey. Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Melinda Jean Bailey of Alexander City; one son, Rodney Bailey (Courtney) of Madison; one daughter, Sandra Murphy of Alexander City; one step-daughter, Terri Whetstone (Mike) of Sylacauga; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and special friends Jim and Kim Lamb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie and Myrtle Bailey; one son, Jimmy Ray Bailey; one brother, John Bailey and one sister, Elise Clemens.
