A Homegoing celebration for Mr. Kempis W. McKinney will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at St. Thomas United Methodist Church, 503 South Main Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. O'Neil Ridgeway officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Sylacauga. Mr. McKinney departed this life to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga, Alabama. He was born December 21, 1928 in Talladega County, Alabama to the late Julius and Callie McKinney. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Sylacauga, serving in the choir. In 1995, Kemp retired from Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Childersburg, Alabama after forty-five years of employment. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Ollie M. (McCain) McKinney, his parents, a sister, Bernice Bridgeman, husband Robert who is also deceased, and a brother, Pearson McKinney, wife Emma who is also deceased. He leaves to cherish his love and fond memories, four children: Avery McKinney, wife Nellie of Sylacauga; Elroy McKinney, wife Laura, of Elizabethtown, KY; Jervay McKinney, wife Septene of Mission Viejo, CA; Gloria McGowan, husband Joe of Childersburg, AL; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a step-brother, James McKinney, wife Sadie who is deceased, of Sylacauga and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. The family will receive visitors, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 starting at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, AL. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga, AL will direct the services.
