TALLADEGA- On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, with her family by her side, our beloved mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, slipped away from us peacefully after a long and very courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. LaTionja Renea Robinson, known by her family and friends as "Renea" or "Tonya", was born on January 9, 1971 in Talladega Alabama as the first of two children to the late, Jimmy F. Robinson, Sr. and Juanita Hutchinson Robinson. Renea attended Westside Head Start, Central Elementary School, Dixon and Zora Ellis Middle and Junior High Schools and Talladega High School (class of 1989), where her outgoing personality and fun spirit earned her entry into all social circles. Following high school she attended Jacksonville State University and Talladega College, where she was an active member in the Social Work and Spanish clubs. From a very early age, Renea had an intense passion for enjoying life. Whether it was at church, at Greater Ebenezer as a member of the Sunbeams, Stairsteppers Choir, Red Circle Girls or Young Women's Alliance (YWA); in school- as a member of the marching band and color guard; or in the community as a brownie scout, Girl Scout, or Delta Gem - Renea was always the cool and fun girl to hang around. Renea seemed to fill every moment of her life with excitement. Her unique ability to find humor in most situations allowed her to transcend whatever hardship or disappointment that was placed in her life. Renea was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1996, although she first suffered symptoms of the illness several years earlier. She was struck with the debilitating disease when she was in her early twenties and exploring the exciting world of New York City as a case worker with the New York Department of Social Services. After developing the incurable neurological condition, she was forced to give up her goal of completing her collegiate studies and her promising career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker was cut short. For nearly two decades, her brave and often humorous battle against MS showcased her fantastic and uncompromising might. Even as her illness progressed, Renea was able to find joy and laughter in every aspect of life. When she was able to talk, she could say something that would make you laugh so hard you would need fresh air or a glass of water to recover. Her willingness to laugh and find humor when many would have been burdened with anger and resentment for an illness that would slowly incapacitate them, was remarkable. Renea never complained- not a single time - never! We will remember Renea for the strength and courage she demonstrated every day. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Renea was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy F. Robinson, Sr. and beloved paternal grandmother, Emma Lee Jackson. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her loving son, Julius Ahmed Jackson of Talladega, Al; mother, Juanita Hutchinson Robinson of Talladega, AL; brother, Jimmy F. Robinson, Jr. (Monica) of Richmond, Va; niece M. Rahel Robinson, nephew, W. Tesfaye Robinson both of Richmond, Va; maternal grandmother Ruby Lee Hutchinson of Talladega, AL; 7 aunts, 4 great aunts, 10 uncles, 4 great uncles, a number of cousins, other relatives and dedicated friends. A Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:30 am at the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega Alabama. Final rites and entombment will take place immediately following the service at Pine Hill Memorial Park and Mausoleum, in Talladega Alabama. Following the entombment, the family invites all friends and relatives to a Repass at Greater Ebenezer. Viewing will take place on Friday, July 20, at Terry's Funeral Home and again on Saturday morning from 10:15am to 11:15 am at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.terrysmortuary.com. The family would like to thank her friends for staying in touch and being with her in person and /or on the phone during her difficult journey with Multiple Sclerosis. For all those who had Renea on your prayer lists we are truly grateful. We would also like to thank all the staff at the various hospitals and medical treatment centers that touched Renea's life especially the staff on the 3rd floor at Citizens Baptist Medical Center, her home health nurse -Tammy Wakefield, her care takers from Talladega home health and her doctor, Anne Davis.
