Funeral services for Emmitt Earney Akers, 86, will be Saturday, August 11 at 12:30 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer. He passed away August 4, 2012. Mr. Akers retired from the US Postal Service after 40 years in 1984 as an Electronic Technician. He served in the Army-Air Force in the 363rd Air Service Group APO 244 as a cook, mail clerk, and marksman rifle. He received Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the good conduct medal, the victory ribbon, and 2 overseas service bars. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Cobb Akers; 2 daughters, Suzanne Morris (Edwin) VanDall and Joyce (Johnny) Hamilton; 5 grandchildren, Amy L. White, John E. Hamilton, Mathew S. Hamilton, Jessica Morris Hill, and Catrina A. Morris; 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, August 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
