Graveside service for LCDR Alma R. Ross NC-USN-Retired, 94, will be Wednesday March 20, 2013 at 2 pm with Phillip Rodney Ross officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. She passed away March 18, 2013 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Laura Belle Ross; brother, Clyde Ross and sister, Iredelle Ross. She graduated from Sylacauga High School, University of Alabama School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University School of Anesthesia in Cleveland, Ohio and the National Institute of Hypnosis for Nurse Anesthetists in New Orleans, LA. During her 20 year career in the Navy she served at U.S. Naval Hospitals in Portsmouth, VA, Camp Pendleton, CA, Memphis, TN, San Diego, CA, Quantico, VA, Pensacola, FL, Beaufort, SC and Bethesda, MD. Overseas she served at Aioa Heights Oahu, Hawaii, Manila, Philippine Islands, Yokuska, Japan, and aboard the Hospital Ship USS Samaritan in the Pacific. She received many awards and decorations including; the American Theater, Pacific Theater, Japanese Occupation, United Nations, National Defense and the Victory medal. After retiring from the Navy, she joined the Anesthesia staff at Sylacauga Hospital where she was employed for 10 years. She is survived by her nephew Phillip Rodney Ross; niece, Rebecca Ann Ross; 2 great nieces.
