Funeral service for Buddy Hammond, 74, will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Radney-Smith Chapel with Rev. James Haskin and Rev. Byron White officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. Former high school teacher and coach, Buddy Hammond died on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Sylacauga Health and Rehab. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bynum and Elene Owen Hammond. He graduated from Auburn University and was an avid supporter of Auburn Athletics. He retired from Sylacauga High School in 1993 after a long career in education. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Sylacauga. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Marvena Hammond, his daughters Jan Boykin, husband Greg of Birmingham and Ginger Weygand, husband Freddy of Opelika; his grandchildren Chase Payne of Atlanta, Samantha Boykin of Auburn, Jori Payne of Providence RI., Hunter and Elizabeth Weygand of Opelika. Visitation will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the First United Methodist Church, 105 E. Spring Street, Sylacauga, AL 35150. Pallbearers will be Tommy Porch, Earl Lewis, Dick Wright, Ronnie Craddock, Sammy Andrews, Nathan Brown, Larry Tankersley, and Raymond Styres.
