Funeral service for Pete, 77, will be at Curtis and Son North Chapel on Sunday, July 13 at 2 p.m. Visitation will precede the service from 12:00-2:00. Reverend Tommy Bounds will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. His life ended at his home with his family, July 11, 2014. He will be remembered as a quiet person, but a true friend to all and centered his life around family and friends. He graduated from B.B. Comer School and was employed by Avondale Mills except for the time he spent in the U.S. Army from September 1960 to September 1962 and in the reserves 4 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis Crysel Cooper; daughter, Karen C. Slaten (Chad); grandsons Edward Reid Slaten and Cooper Ryan Slaten of Childersburg; sisters Charlsie C. Dean (Joe, deceased) of Anniston, JoAnn C. Evans (John) of Warrior; special niece Sherry D. McKinney (Andy) of Anniston. He was an active member of Mignon United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mignon United Methodist Church, PO Box 1273, Sylacauga, AL 35150, or The Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136-1494, or a . Pallbearers will be Chad Slaten, Nolan Parker, Wade Nobles, Donald Duck, Bo Milam, Taylor Crysel, Jonathan Lund, and Jason Towery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Brown, Gerald Armstrong, Earl Joiner, Sam Landers, Pete Sumners, David Blanchard, John Andrews, and Donald Owens. The family gives thanks to the Coosa Valley Medical Center Hospice, Dr. Aldahar, Dr. Clay Davis, Belva Forbus, Jody Alberson, Evon Green, McKeisha King and Robin Player for their care, concern and compassion during the time of his illness.
