Kenneth L. Ray, age 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Kenneth owned Ray Insurance since 1990. He has been pastoring since 1983. He pastored in Florida, Headland, AL, Selma, AL and at Eastside Baptist Church in Sylacauga for 14 years. He was currently the Pastor at Village Street Baptist where he had been ministering for 3 years. He sang in the gospel group Promise Land and had a gospel music show on TV6 and also worked for WYEA. He coached B team and Jr. team basketball at Fayetteville as a volunteer, which he truly loved. Kenneth also served in the Navy from December 1969 to September 1973. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Ray, mother, Ruth Ray, brother Everette Ray and sisters Betty Hansen and Shannon Goss. Mr. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Wyatt Ray; daughter Angela Ray Ledford, husband Sarge; son, Chris Ray, wife Melissa; five grandchildren that held his heart: Austin, Emma, Ruthie, Betsy and Davis; one special brother-in-law, Gary Wyatt; sisters, Lois Gaither, Imogene White and a host of special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 9 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Blackmon officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Houston, Clay Smith, Ed Jenkins, Larry Smith, Travis Grimes and the men of Village Street Baptist Church. Special thanks to New Beacon Hospice and a host of friends and loved ones. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the services.
