Funeral services for Mr. James Curtis Giddens, 71, of Millerville will be held Friday, November 2, 2012, at 2:00 p. m. at Oak Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Stone, Rev. Jimmy Nelson, and Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with graveside military rites. Mr. Giddens passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. He was a native of Sylacauga, but had been a resident of Millerville since 1990. He was a graduate of BB Comer High School, a U. S. Navy veteran where he served aboard the USS Canisteo, and was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife of 52 years , Laurine Cooper Giddens of Millerville; three daughters, Tammy Askew (Lyndoll) of Millerville, Debbie Campbell (Brad) of Sylacauga, and Belinda Catchings (Jeff) of Millerville; three sisters, Annie Mae Thomas of Talladega, Aveline Chandler of Fairhope, and Joyce Stoudenmire of Montgomery; one brother, Melvin Giddens of Sylacauga; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Giddens was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Giddens and Annie Maude Heath Giddens; two sisters, Betty Jean Giddens, and Vivian Giddens; and granddaughter, Blair Catchings. Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Giddens will be Brian Askew, Lyndoll Askew, Heath Barkley, Brad Campbell, Matt Campbell, Jeff Catchings, and Nathan Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay County Hospital Hospice staff, Kim Jordan, Sarah Bickers, Pattie Brooks, and Erica Wood. Clay County Funeral Home directed the service.
