Funeral service for Charles H. Harkins, 85, will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 2 pm at Childersburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lori Carden and the Rev. David Deter officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Mr. Harkins passed away April 14, 2013 at his residence. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Childersburg. He was instrumental in starting the volunteer fire department for the city of Childersburg. He also coached Little League for several years. He also retired from Kimberly-Clark after 40 years serving as an assistant fire chief. He is preceded in death by two wives, Margaret Wright Harkins and Wanda Harris Harkins; sister, Norma Peppers; brother, Joe Harkins. He is survived by sons, Ronnie (Deborah) Harkins of Pell City; Frank (Debbie) Harkins of Mobile; Jimmy (Red) (Chris) Harkins of Childersburg; sisters, Ruth Clapp of Birmingham, MI; Helen Braswell of Cropwell; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 1-2 pm at Childersburg First United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Johnson, Jimmy Payne, Ralph Rich, Rita Stone, Don McCullough.
