Joseph Francis Joyce, 87, of West Chester, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Friday, June 28, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Pecko) Joyce; they were married for 56 years.
Born in Aldan, Pa., he was the son of the late Martin H. and Gertrude (Moen) Joyce.
"Joe" attended Lansdowne High School and Penn State University.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
He worked as a salesman in the HVAC industry for his professional life.
Joe was an active member of Ss. Simon & Jude Church in West Chester. He was a third-degree Knight of Columbus.
He was a member of the Spingfield Lions Club in Delaware County; he received the Golden Lion and Melvin Jones Awards. Joe served as governor of District 14A, and he served as a member of the board of directors for the Wills Eye Bank.
He is survived by his children, Patricia J. Kasper (Michael) of Downingtown, Joseph F. Joyce II (Diane) of Gilbertsville, Judith J. Muller (Thomas) of Downingtown and Brian D. Joyce of West Chester; and his grandchildren, Amanda (Joyce) Luckanish, Joseph F. Joyce III, Thomas M. Joyce, Kevin M. Kasper, Gregory M. Kasper and Benjamin B. Joyce; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sister Marita Gertrude IHM, Martin H. Joyce II, Gertrude (Joyce) Simon and Mary L. Joyce.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at Ss. Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ss. Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382; and/or the Springfield Lions Club, P.O. Box 220, Springfield, PA 19064.
