Donald "Ducky" D'Ginto Sr.

Donald D'Ginto Sr. of West Chester Donald "Ducky" D'Ginto Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, surrounded by his family after a 21/2-year battle with nSCL cancer. He was 73. Don was born in Berwyn, Pa. in 1939 to the late Margret Flemming and Louis D'Ginto of Downingtown and was raised in the Downingtown area before moving to West Chester. He graduated from Downingtown High School in 1957. Don married Bonnie West of Chester Springs and shared 52 years of marriage. Don served the Borough of West Chester as a police officer from 1964-66. He was a past member of the Chester County FOP Lodge 11. He served with the core of Good Fellowship Ambulance for many years. Don was an honorary member of the 1st West Chester Fire Company, and an active member for more than 49 years. Don was the Communications Officer for the West Chester Fire Department, a member of the Italian Social Club, and a member of the Chester County Classic Car Club. Don received "Life Saving Awards" from the Chester County Fire Chief's Association and the Borough of West Chester in 1970 for the rescue of an occupant from a burning home in West Chester. Don finished his career as a Communications Technician for the Chester County Department of Emergency Services. Don's interests included restoring classic cars. He was the proud owner of a 1957 Chevrolet restored by hand from bumper to bumper and was in the process of restoring a 1939 Mercury sedan. Later in life Don's favorite pastime was spending time with his nine grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife of 52 years Bonnie (West) D'Ginto of West Chester; son Donald and his wife Anne D'Ginto, and their three children Stephen, Alexandria, and Daniel of Downingtown; daughter Barbara and her husband Alex DiEdwardo and their three children Vincent, Lauren, and Hallie of Downingtown; son Richard and his wife Debbie D'Ginto, and their three children Thomas, Michael, Megan of Charlestown; daughter Gina Marie Burkholder and her husband Kevin of Ephrata; brothers, Floyd and his wife Amelia D'Ginto, Roy and his wife Josephine D'Ginto both of Downingtown; Richard and his wife Bonnie D'Ginto of Apopka, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister Geraldine and her husband, Donald Farrell. Family and friends are invited his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 15, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester. Visitations will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 N.
