Jeanne Hickman Luther

Jeanne Hickman Luther of West Chester Jeanne Hickman Luther, 98, of West Chester, formerly of Gradyville and Media, died on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Pocopson Home. She was the widow of the late Martin Walter Luther. Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, Jeanne was the daughter of the late John Earl and Amy (ne Laucks) Hickman. She was a graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of West Chester State Teachers College, primary education class of 1933. Jeanne taught first grade in the Reading schools for seven years until her marriage when she moved to Wallingford and became a homemaker. Subsequent moves were to Gradyville where she raised her children, Media, and West Chester. Her favorite interests were times spent with family and friends, church activities at Gradyville Methodist and then at Media Presbyterian, and summers in Cape May, N.J. After moving to West Chester, she joined First Presbyterian Church. She is lovingly remembered for her wonderful smile, generous spirit, and positive outlook. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Martin Walter Luther in 1975, her son, Martin W. Luther, Jr. in 2005, and her sister, Isabel Hickman Hawman in 2007. Jeanne is survived by a daughter, Louise L. Classen of West Chester, three granddaughters, Jennifer C. Drap and her husband, Scott, of West Chester, Cindy C. Sabo and her husband, Brian, of Lutherville, Md., and Gwynne C. Walker and her husband, Brian of Malvern, and seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Jake and Sam Drap, Megan and Caroline Sabo, and Julie and Ben Walker. She is also survived by a brother, Bruce Laucks Hickman of Loves Park, Ill. and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Jeanne's memorial service at 12:30 on Saturday, March 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester. Family will greet visitors following the service. A private interment will have been held before the service.
