John Irwin 'Buck' Shaffer Jr. of West Chester John Irwin "Buck" Shaffer, Jr., 89, of West Chester, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Life Care Hospital in West Chester. He was the husband of Helen Snyder Shaffer for 68 years. Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late John Irwin Shaffer Sr. and the late Isabelle Donovan Shaffer. Buck was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church in West Chester. He grew up on Llanduie Farm in East Goshen before being employed by Wyeth for 38 years. Buck had a lifelong love of farming and especially John Deere Tractors. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1333 of West Chester and a 4th degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Chester County Assembly #1873. Buck was Past Master of the East Goshen Grange #121 and also Past Grand Master of the Pomona Grange. He was always well liked by everyone who knew him and was known as a great story teller.. In addition to his wife, Buck is survived by his children, Helenann Meenan (Anthony) of West Chester, John I. Shaffer III of Columbia, Md., Mary Gail Gallagher of Thorndale, Elizabeth Masural (Kurt) of Charlotte, N.C., Robert Shaffer (Sherri) of Lionville and Andrea Wood (David) of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Frances Shaffer of West Chester; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Shaffer and sisters, Elizabeth Winston and Alice I. Shaffer. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass, 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd., West Chester.
