Mary J. Shoop

Mary J. Shoop of West Chester Mary J. Shoop, 80, of West Chester, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at her home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Daniel R. Shoop, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Halstad, Minn. and raised in Wanatah, Ind., she was the daughter of the late A. H. and Ethel Nygaard Christianson. She was a graduate of Valparaiso University, where she received her bachelor's of science degree in home economics. She was employed by Strawbridge and Clothier as a sales clerk for ten years. Prior to that, she was a homemaker, raising her children. Mrs. Shoop moved from Indiana to Pennsylvania in the early 1960's and settled in West Chester in 1967. Among her many interests were needle crafts, gardening, sewing and jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Greene (Don) of Lock Haven, Elizabeth Dickinson (Randall) of Downingtown, Karen Shoop of West Chester, and Susan Shoop of Downingtown. She is also survived by her brother, David Christianson of Cozad, Nebraska; and by grandchildren, Nicole, Daniel, Matthew and Matthew. She was predeceased by her daughter, Amanda Shoop; and her sister, Catherine Ehrichs. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18th, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 101 Worthington Road, Exton, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. A visitation will also be held from2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17th, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
