Ray M. Kipp

Ray M. Kipp of Downingtown Ray M. Kipp, 85 of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Chester County Hospital. Ray was born in Elizabethtown on Nov. 28, 1927 to parents Ezra and Sophie Kipp. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Earl, Charles and Eugene and his beloved wife Sylvia Irene Plouse Kipp to whom he was married for 58 years. Ray is survived by his sisters, Betty Kipp and Janet Ace of Elizabethtown, son David and his wife Mary of Downingtown, daughter Kathleen and husband Edward Weston of Collierville, Tenn.; granddaughter Angela and husband James Baer of Downingtown and their three children Isabella, Eva and James, granddaughter Jenna and husband Sean Quigley of Boulder, Colo., and grandson Nicholas Weston of Memphis, Tenn. Ray graduated from Elizabethtown High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at age 17 and served in the Pacific during World War II. After the War he enrolled at Millersville State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in industrial arts in 1949. He was an industrial arts teacher and middle school administrator for 37 years, most of those in the Coatesville Area School District. Ray was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Downingtown since 1954 where he was an usher, taught Sunday school and was a long time member of the Property Committee. Ray had many hobbies including woodworking, photography and making home repairs. He was the person who family and friends always could count on to be able to fix just about anything. For the last few years, Ray was a resident of Simpson Meadows in Downingtown where he participated in many activities including the Meadowlarks singing group and helping to organize the Meadows Rocks Rock-at-thon. Ray will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 46 West Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family members may be greeted starting at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Ray's name at 46 West Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335.
