Carl Mohr Obituary

Dr. Carl A. Mohr of West Chester Dr. Carl A. Mohr, 84, of West Chester, passed away on Sept. 30, 2013. He was born in Aldan, on March 10, 1929. Carl graduated from Springfield (PA) High School. He earned a BS chemical engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Doctor of dental surgery from University of Pennsylvania. He practiced dentistry in West Chester for 53 yrs. Carl was an avid lifetime learner and pursued many hobbies from gardening and raising koi, to bird carving, canoeing, and designing and building projects around the house. But his most important skill was teaching and passing his love of learning to others, especially his children. He taught dentistry part time at Penn for many years. He believed in learning through doing. Whether teaching chemistry through raising fish and collecting and analyzing minerals, or mechanics by repairing cars, learning was made fun. An example was his fascination with the New Jersey Pine Barrens and the scores of canoe trips where his children and grandchildren learned about this unique ecosystem and the need to protect it. Every day, every household problem was turned into a teaching event. And, who surely would not want to learn something new? He is survived by his wife, Emily; their children, James and Bertrand; and four grandchildren.
