Dorothy Hughes James of West Chester Dorothy Hughes James, 94, of West Chester, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at Linden Hall in Kennett Square. She was the wife of the late William Hunter James, Sr. Born in Thornton, she was the daughter of the late George Souders Hughes, Jr. and the late Helen Davis James. Dorothy was an active, and the oldest, member of the Marshallton United Methodist Church. She was a 1937 graduate of Downingtown High School. She is survived by children, William Hunter (Sally) James, Jr. of Keane, N.H., Susan J. (Nicholas) Mason of Montgomery Village, Md. and Betsy J. Stefferud of West Chester; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) James, Andrew, Adam and Evan James, Samuel and Abigail Mason, Erik Stefferud; and great- grandchildren, Marissa and Ryan James She was preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis Buckley and Phoebe Mercer. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, followed by her funeral service, 11 a.m., at the Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1282 W. Strasburg Road, West Chester, PA 19382. Interment will be at the adjoining church cemetery.
