Dorothy Neff Obituary

Dorothy R. 'Dot' Neff of West Chester Dorothy R. "Dot" Neff, 73, of West Chester, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at Neighborhood Hospice Inpatient Unit in West Chester. She was the wife of Philip W. Neff, Jr. with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Ellwood G. Ruth and the late Virginia R. Price Ruth. Dot was a 1958 graduate of West Chester High School, where she was a cheerleader. She attended Dickinson College for 2 years and graduated from West Chester State Teachers College in 1962. Dot taught at Barnsworth Nursery School and Kesher Israel Nursery School. She was president of the Jr. New Century Club and a member of the Yag Club. Dot loved Ocean City, N.J. and enjoyed tennis, reading and knitting. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Ginnie Mosher and her husband Bill, Polly McCullough and her husband Rob, Philip Neff and his wife Victoria, and Tim Neff and his wife Shelly; grandchildren, Wills, Caroline, Charlotte, Claire, Dorothy and Malin. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Highberger. Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service, 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21st, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Neighborhood Hospice Inpatient Unit, 795 E. Marshall St., Suite 204, West Chester, PA 19380 and/or Camp Dreamcatcher, 617 W. South St., Kennett Square, PA 19348. I taught with Dot at Barnsworth and remember so many wonderful days together. She was an excellent teacher, I learned so much from her. I will always remember her laughter and good cheer, she was always happy and the source of that happiness was her family. You have my deepest sympathy.

They say a life is measured by the impact you leave behind. Dot was one of my sons preschool teachers at barnsworth. I remember her gentle and kind guidance. He is now 26 happy and successful. Teachers contibute small parts to all their students futures and live on for generations to come
