George Maher Obituary

George T. Maher, 89, of West Chester, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Smith) Maher of West Chester, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Springfield, Pa., he was the son of the late William Maher and the late Helen Cartwright Maher.
He retired after 44 years of service as a manager at BP Oil Co.
He proudly served his county as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
George was a car enthusiast. He was a member of the Chester County Antique Car Club and a member of the Active A's Model A Car Club as well as many others.
He was a member of Grove United Methodist Church, Thomson Masonic Lodge No. 340 F.&A.M. and the NRA.
He enjoyed the outdoors, found joy in his dogs, and loved his family very much.
George will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person who touched many lives. He gave his family and friends many wonderful memories and will be missed very much.
In addition to his wife he is survived a son, Tom Maher and his wife, Tina, of Coatesville; grandchildren, Chris, Dan and Steve; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Maher.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, followed by his funeral service 11 a.m., at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home Inc., 410 N. Church St., West Chester, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com.
Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
