George Screem Obituary

George E. Screem, Jr., 83, of West Chester, Pa., passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 19, 2013. He was the son of the late George E. Screem, Sr., and the late Sarah (O'Neill). George was the loving husband of Jeanette R. (Meyer) of West Chester, with whom he just celebrated 59 years of marriage on August 21, 2013. He was born in Philadelphia but spent most of his life in West Chester. He was a graduate of the former St. Agnes Grade School and High School and was vigilant in attending his class reunions now held at Bishop Shanahan High School. He was active in his beloved church, St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he ushered Saturday night mass until last week. As a young man he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and he loved to play softball. He had studied to become a Mechanical Engineer. He worked at Lenape Forge alongside his father. Later in life he worked at Borden Chemical Company in Norristown. He was also a member of the First West Chester Fire Company and in his younger days loved to march in parades with that fire company. He was also very active in the former Italian Social Club. He had a passion for all types of cars. He is the loving brother of Mary Ester (Mike) Clark, and the late Madeline Screem. He leaves behind five daughters, Teresa Fonock of Chadds Ford, Kathy (Timlyn)Vaughan of West Chester, Lisa Abrams of Glenmoore, Michelle (Brian) Falcone of St. Augustine, Fla, and Christine Screem of West Chester. He also leaves behind his 11 grandchildren, Justin Fonock, Jeffrey (Carolyn) Fonock, Brittany Fonock, Tristan Vaughan, Kelsey Vaughan, Ashley Abrams, Brooke Abrams, Jasmine Abrams, Meredith Falcone, Nicholas Falcone, and Alexandra Patterson. He also leaves behind one Great Granddaughter, Brielle Abrams; five nieces and nephews, Virginia (Jeff) Hanchett, James Clark, Jordan (Sheila) Clark, Eileen Clark, and the late Karen Clark, and a brother-in-law, R. Paul Meyer, and numerous cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Agnes Church, 233 West Gay St., West Chester, PA 19380 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, Pa.
