Harold R. Bomgardner

Harold R. Bomgardner, formerly of West Chester Harold R. Bomgardner, 83, of Downingtown, formerly of West Chester, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth 'Betsy' Bomgardner, who died in 1996. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Jacob Henry and Annie Yorty Bomgardner. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He graduated in 1959 from Penn State University with a B.S. in horticulture. Over the years he was employed by Styers Nursery, Waterloo Gardens and Whiteland West Apartments. He was a member of Grove United Methodist Church where he was active in the Elderberries senior citizens group. Harold was an outgoing person who loved his family and enjoyed people. He was also an avid reader and had a passion for plants. Harold is survived by his children, Timothy W. and Richard S. Bomgardner, both of Downingtown, and Christopher P. Bomgardner and his wife Dorothy McMichael and their son Christian Jonas Bomgardner, all of Huntingdon; and a brother, David Bomgardner of Lititz. He was also an uncle to 23 nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Esther, Mary, Christian, Howard, Annie, Lloyd, Margaret and Ethel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26, at Grove United Methodist Church, 490 West Boot Rd., West Chester, PA 19380, where the family will receive guests starting at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer.
