Jon S. Helman

Jon S. Helman of West Chester Jon S. Helman, 68, passed away at home July 15, 2013, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rockford, Ill., he was the son of the late Kenneth and Muriel Helman. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a BS in economics and received his MBA from Northern Illinois University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was employed by Sun Oil Company as a financial analyst for 34 years, retiring in 2003. Jon was a member of the Church of the Good Samaritan, serving in many areas including stewardship, the Dakota committee and the Vestry and most recently serving in the Men's and Counters Ministries. In addition to church activities, Jon was active in The Gideons International, and served on the board of Liberty Lutheran Services. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Darlene C. Helman; his daughters, Mary Beth Joseph (Mark) of Paoli, Kristen Merrell (Jeffrey) of Monument, Colo., and Jennifer D'Antonio (Joseph) of West Chester; his grandchildren, Sarah, Noah, Ethan, and Aaron Joseph, Jon and Andrew Merrell, and Natalie and Joey D'Antonio. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Elizabeth) of Tracy, Calif. and David (Mary) of Fairfax, Va.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, at The Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 W. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA 19301. The family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 9:15 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Gideons International, PO Box 80, Devon, PA 19333; or Liberty Lutheran Services, 7002 Butler Ave., Ambler, PA 19002, would be appreciated.
