Marjorie Allbrooks Tarry, formerly of Malvern Marjorie Allbrooks Tarry, 86, died peacefully on May 19, 2013, in Exeter, N.H. Margie is survived by a son, Stephen Tarry and fiancee Betsy Giese of Derry, N.H.; two daughters-in-law, Susan (Putnam Tarry) Gilland of Manchester, N.H. and Margery (Brunell) Lewis of King of Prussia; five grandchildren, Kyle Tarry and fiancee Kate Woodman of Media, Ellen (Tarry) Waller and husband Edward Waller of Boston, Mass., Damon Tarry of Manchester, N.H., Craig Lewis and wife Katie (Wentworth) Lewis of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Glen Lewis and wife Bekah (Weaver) Lewis of West Chester; and five nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Eldred Tarry, in 1993; a brother, Eugene Allbrooks, in 2000; a daughter, Katherine (Tarry) Lewis in 1998 and husband Vernon Lewis in 2008; and a son, Evan Tarry in 1985. Margie was born March 15, 1927, in Orange, N.J., the daughter of Leslie Allbrooks and Catherine (Wilkisson) Allbrooks. She graduated from Columbia High School in East Orange in 1945, and after attending Berkeley Secretarial School, worked several years at Eastern Airlines in New York City. Margie and Eldred married in 1949 in Montclair, N.J., and after briefly living in Essex Fells, moved to Westfield, N.J. where they lived for 20 years. They then resided in Malvern from 1971 until his retirement in 1985, when they moved to Newtown Square. In 2004, Margie moved to the RiverWoods retirement community in Exeter, N.H. Margie loved sports, particularly baseball, and avidly followed various teams from the Brooklyn Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed playing tennis. She loved Siamese cats and had half a dozen over 35 years. But her two greatest passions were boating, especially in Maine, and classical music, especially opera. Starting with a 22-foot Owens cabin cruiser in the early 1960s which took the family of five as far as Nantucket, the Tarrys cruised along the coast from Chesapeake Bay to New Brunswick for 34 summers, usually accompanied their dear friends Bob and Peggy Yaeger and their daughters Anne, Chris, and Susie. The Maine coast became their favorite cruising grounds, and seeking a home port there, they first rented a cottage on the island of Islesboro, and later bought a small second home in Milbridge. Margie shared her love of opera with Eldred soon after they met, and over the years they attended hundreds of performances at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City and many other venues. Their boats were named from Mozart's Don Giovanni and their cats from Puccini's Madame Butterfly. Interment will be in Milbridge, Maine at a future date. Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, N.H. is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations in Margie's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004. For more information please visit
