Martha M. Beam

Martha M. Beam of Downingtown Martha M. Beam, 78, of Downingtown, passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Brandywine Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl L. Beam, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2009. Born in West Chester, Martha she was the daughter of the late G. Warren and Mabel Robb Mercer. She was a 1953 graduate of Downingtown High School. For 35 years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Cupola Construction. She also worked for the Downingtown VFW as a bookkeeper and bartender. Martha enjoyed reading the Daily Local Newspaper. She also loved dancing, football pools, and poker. Mrs. Beam is survived by her children, Ron Beam and his wife, Sonya, and Cathy Doran and her husband, John, all of Downingtown; brother, William Mercer of Glen Burnie, Md.; sister, Nancy Purcell of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Justin and Kelsey Beam, JJ and Erin Doran, and Mat and Ashley Brown; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Clarence Mercer. A memorial service will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 7th at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will be in private for the family.
