Patricia "Pat" (Holgren) Vaughn Obituary
Patricia 'Pat' (Holgren) Vaughn of West Chester Patricia "Pat" (Holgren) Vaughn passed on peacefully shortly after noon on Saturday, Oct. 27, at her home in Yardley Village, Hershey's Mill. She was surrounded by loving family members who had been with her continually for several days. Also at her side was Devon, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and constant companion. Mrs. Vaughn's life was marked by an appreciation and celebration of beauty. Whether hunting for antiques in Europe and Chester County, running her successful antiques and decorating business or photographing her beloved bluebirds, Mrs. Vaughn showed a gifted eye and an infectious passion that helped others see the world around them in a new way. She also taught nursery school for a number of years. Daughter of the late Erik W. and Helen (Conner) Holgren, Mrs. Vaughn was raised in Drexel Hill and graduated from Upper Darby High School. She always displayed courage and determination that belied her petite size. There is perhaps no better example of this than her battle with polio as a child. After being confined to an iron lung and given little chance to walk without leg braces, she and her parents refused to listen to experts and she walked unassisted a few months after emerging from the iron lung. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by husband Rogers "Rod" W. Vaughn with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage this past July. The couple met while students at the University of Pennsylvania, married a month after her graduation and soon moved to Germany as Mr. Vaughn completed his military service. The couple lived in the West Chester area since 1957, except for five years while Rogers worked in Geneva and Brussels for DuPont in the 1970s. Mrs. Vaughn is also survived by a son, Erik Vaughn and wife Susan, of Landenberg, and their three children, Lauren of Philadelphia, Haley and William; a daughter, Bonny Destafney, and her husband Frank, of West Chester; and cousins, Pamela (Higgins) Barndt of Surprise, Ariz. and Clifford Holgren of Bryn Mawr. A celebration of Mrs. Vaughn's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Radley Run Country Club, West Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Neighborhood Hospice, 400 East Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380 or the Chester County SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA 19380. Arrangements by The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Online condolences at www.donohuefuneralhome.com.
