Phyllis D. Magill

Phyllis D. Magill of West Chester Phyllis Dale Magill, 85, of West Chester, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at her home. She was the wife of William R. Magill, D.Ed. Born in Lebanon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Hayward Howard Dale, Sr. and the late Edna Mae Loraw Dale. Phyllis was a member of the Christ Memorial Lutheran Church of Malvern where she served as a Pre-school Lunch Bunch supervisor. She attended Palmyra High School and then graduated from Lebanon High School in 1946. She earned her B.A. degree from Lebanon Valley College in 1950 and then received advanced training and certification as a registered laboratory technologist from St. Joseph Hospital of Lancaster, Pa. Phyllis began her career at Orlando General Hospital in Florida. She later returned to Lebanon to work at the Good Samaritan Hospital and then became Chief Registered Laboratory Technologist at Harrisburg Osteopathic Hospital. After moving to West Chester in 1972 she worked for 26 years at the Brandywine River Museum in their gift shop. Phyl then completed her working career at the Chadds Ford Art Gallery. She was a member of the Chadds Ford Historical Society. Phyllis also served on the Chester County Night School Board of Directors. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Brian D. Magill and his wife JoLeen of Newbury Park, Calif., Shannon D. Carter and her husband Clayton P. Carter III; grandchildren, Colleen and Travis, step-grandson, Shane; brother, Hayward H. Dale, Jr. of Lebanon, and brother, Donald Dale of Audubon. Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service, 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 89 Township Line Road, Malvern, PA 19355. All are welcome to a reception following the Memorial Service. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Gideons International, Chester County East Camp, P.O.
