Ruth Fisher Frey of Downingtown Ruth Fisher Frey, formerly of Ocean City, N.J. died September 27, 2012. She was 88. She was born Ruth Fisher and grew up in Virginia Beach, Va. She attended Westtown Friends School near West Chester, where she met and later married Lawrence A. Yearsley. She studied at the Norfolk division of William and Mary College. While raising five children in Gum Tree near Parkesburg, she became involved in volunteer work. She served on the planning and zoning commission of Highland Township and later on the Octorara Regional Planning Commission. She was also involved in 4-H activities and in the Cheshire Pony Club. She had a love for golf (she won numerous tournaments), horseback riding, tennis and body surfing in the Atlantic Ocean. Although she denied having a good singing voice, she derived great solace and joy from singing in the choir at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Ocean City, N.J. She loved a good book, listening to opera and had a great appreciation for the arts. She worked for the Health & Welfare Council of West Chester. For three and one half years she was transportation coordinator of the Chester County Rural Transit. She also was director of the Chester County Volunteer Bureau, a clearinghouse for matching volunteers with the appropriate organizations. When she moved to Ocean City, N.J., she joined the staff of Wesley Manor as their Activities Director. She loved helping people and was known for her compassion, empathy and quick wit. Ruth Frey is survived by five children, Lynne Yearsley of Lexington, Ky., Lawrie Yearsley of White Bear Lake, Minn., Nancy Yearsley of Lexington, Ky., Dana Yearsley of Ashland, Ore. and Anne Hellhake of Downingtown; a brother, Thomas Fisher of Malvern; sons-in-law, John Golling and Paul Hellhake; daughter-in-law, Susan Yearsley; eight grandchildren and one great- grandson.
