Spencer L. Windle Obituary
Spencer L. Windle of Elverson Spencer L. Windle, 96, of Elverson, passed away on April 15, 2014, at Freedom Village. He is survived by his faithful wife of 67 years, Emily Schmitt Windle. Spencer was born Feb. 17, 1918 to the late Percy H. and Louise (Brown) Windle. He was a graduate of Taylor Business School in Philadelphia, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Mounted Beach Patrol 4th Naval District from 1941-1944. Mr. Windle was employed by Downingtown National Bank 1952-1982 and retired as their vice president and trust officer. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, a Downingtown Rotarian, a Mason with Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383, and a member of P.O.S. of A. Spencer was a lifelong resident of beautiful Chester County. He was a local historian and authored several books on historic places in Chester County as well as about the Coast Guard Mounted Patrol. He loved his farm, his horses, his family, church and his many friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Louise Thomas and her husband, Mark; step-granddaughter, Holly Miller and husband, David; and great-grandson, Tanner Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Suellen Resch in 2008. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22nd, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. A visitation will also be held on Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Forks of the Brandywine, Glenmoore.
