Theodore Roderer Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Francis Roderer Jr., 83, of West Chester, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
Born Dec. 1, 1929, in Philadelphiato Theodore Francis Roderer and Alicia Meyers, he was married for almost 60 years to the late Pauline Joyce Trego Roderer.
Mr. Roderer is survived by his six children and their families: Pat (Mrs. Dave) Bagnall of East Fallowfield; Pam (Mrs. Dan) Olinger of Greenville, S.C.; Ted (and Margaret) Roderer of West Chester; Tom (and Patty) Roderer of Downingtown; Penny (Mrs. Stephen) Palmer of Greenville, S.C.; and Peggy (Mrs. John) Embree of East Fallowfield. The Roderers have 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Ted attended Girard College until his graduation in 1946 at 16 years of age. He was the captain of the soccer team and winner of the intermural soccer championship. As a freshman at Lock Haven University, he made the dean's list and set school records in track and field with the javelin. In 1951 Ted graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in labor and management.
Mr. Roderer had a long, successful career in business leadership. Employed by Sherwin Williams for 30 years as credit manager, store manager, district sales manager and division manager, he was twice recognized in the President's Circle of Excellence. He then invested seven years at Rulon, where he started the company's roofing division. He never retired but instead founded R&R Systems, his commercial roofing company, which he ran up to the time of his death.
Throughout his life Ted was passionate about learning and reading, serving on the West Chester Area School Board and regularly challenging his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in spirited discussion and debate. Having secured success in his professional life with energy and drive, he brought that same energy to every part of his life. In his final days he was surrounded by family.
His family will gather for a private memorial service at Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery in East Fallowfield.
Letters of encouragement and remembrance can be sent to 954 S. Matlack St., West Chester, PA 19382.

I have so many great memories of Mr. Roderer. As Cathy said, he was very much a mentor as well as a dear friend to our father. He was a man that I always had great respect for and I remember asking him questions about our political system and being fascinated by how brilliant he was. I had said my goodbye to him when he was in the hospital the last time and was shocked to hear shortly thereafter that he was home exercising and building himself back to health. I am very thankful for the wonderful memories I have of this great man. Love and prayers to the family.

Mr. Roderer was a passionate man. He was a great "thinker". Pat reminds me most of him with her passion and love and gift of teaching. I remember vacationing with your family in the mountains. Mr. Roderer was a mentor and friend to my father, Sid Speaker. I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy to all the family.
