Ardell H. Bollinger of West Chester Ardell H. Bollinger, 89, of West Chester, died on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of Kathryn E. Bowers Bollinger. Born in Lock Haven, Pa., he was the son of the late Scott Bollinger and the late Lucy Michaels Bollinger. He was a graduate of Lock Haven High School and worked in sales. Ardell was a decorated WWII Army/Air Corp veteran. In 1942, he flew with the 384 Bomb Group as a radio operator and was shot down in France. He eluded capture with the help of the French Underground. After his return to the United States, he participated in the transfer of Japanese troops out of China. Ardell was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed sailing and flying. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Edith J. Idell (nee Starkey) and her husband Thomas of Blue Anchor, N.J., Scott H. Bollinger and his wife Donna of East Fallowfield, and grandchildren, Katie, Tesa, Ted, Brittani, Kali and Erin. He is also survived by his brother, Hudson Bollinger and his wife Jane of Springfield. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service 7 p.m. Friday, August 3, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380. 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 215 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 795 E. Marshall St., Suite 204, West Chester, PA 19380.
