Barbara Phillips Chandler Obituary
Barbara Phillips Chandler of Phoenix, Arizona Barbara Phillips Chandler died May 4, 2012. She was born November 25, 1943 in Bayonne, New Jersey. At the age of 2, her family moved to Birmingham, Ala. and she lived there until 1971. Barbara married Orville Chandler on August 20, 1965. They have lived in Birmingham, Ala., Atlanta, Ga., West Chester, Ohio and West Chester, PA, until finally settling in the desert in 2008. The move to Phoenix was motivated by the desire to be near two of their three sons. Barbara had undergraduate and graduate degrees in applied mathematics from Samford University and taught the subject at the middle school, elementary school, Junior College and University levels. She is survived by her spouse, Corley Orville Chandler; sons, Cary Michael (Rachel) Chandler of Frisco, Texas, Scot Nathan (Julie) Chandler of Scituate, Mass. and Noel David (Jill) Chandler of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Payton, Grayson, Kaelen, Elizabeth and Courtney; and brother, Walter C. "Phil" Phillips of San Antonio, Texas. Barbara would be described as a soft spoken lady who was a provider and had a zest for life. Her family was her pride and joy and she was able to stay home and nurture her sons until the youngest was in the 4th grade. She was especially proud to be called Nana by the grandchildren. Barbara was always active in church and charity work and was enjoying her time of leadership and support at Northwest Community Church in Phoenix and the Phoenix Seminary until struck by a devastating illness in December 2011. Memorial Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Northwest Community Church, 16615 N. 43rd Ave., Phoenix, Ariz. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any cancer research fund or to the Phoenix Seminary.
