Deloris R. Briggs Avery of Sicklerville, N.J. Deloris R. Briggs Avery, 71, wife of the late Arthur A. Avery of Sicklerville, N.J., passed on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Born March 10, 1940 in Sumter, S.C. she was the daughter of the late James P. Isaac and Laura Rice Briggs. At a young age, Deloris moved to Philadelphia, graduating from Kensington High School for Girls. Later she attended Temple University. For over thirty years she was a caseworker for the Department of Public Welfare at the Ridge District, state of Pennsylvania retiring in her 60's. Also for the past twenty years, she was a member of St. James Apostolic Temple of Camden, N.J. where she was one of the church mothers. Prior to her membership at St. James, she was a member of Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church in Philadelphia where she was quite active. She served as Sunday school superintendent and church secretary. Deloris loved to sing and sang in many choirs and for many occasions. Deloris was a three sport varsity athlete in high school, lettering in track, volleyball and basketball. She loved to travel, visiting Hawaii and Australia twice and she collected salt and pepper shakers. She was also an awesome cook. She is survived by two children, District Elder Carlton Mark Avery of Kennett Square, Pa. and Evangelist Pamela Jeanine Avery of Sicklerville, N.J.; two grandchildren, Carlton Mark Avery, II of Avondale and Chandler Monroe Avery of Kennett Square, Pa.; two sisters; two brothers and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Christ Haven Worship Center, 6800 Lindbergh Boulevard, Philadelphia, Pa.A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be Monday, March 12, 2012 in the Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester, Pa.
