Dr. Donald E. McConnell D.D.S of Downingtown Dr. Donald E. McConnell, 77, formerly of West Chester, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014 surrounded by his family at Paoli Hospital. Donald was the loving husband of Doris Jean McConnell for 54 years and together they raised three daughters. Dr. McConnell practiced dentistry for 49 years in West Chester. He was a graduate of Dickinson College and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. He served as Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, stationed in Augusta Georgia. Dr. McConnell received his fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1972. Dr. McConnell was an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, Thomas Jefferson University and Temple University. He taught Prosthodontics to juniors and seniors for over forty years and retired from teaching in 2009. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, Chester-Delaware County, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia County Dental Association. Donald loved to golf, watch sports, and play cards. He was an avid fan of baseball, however he enjoyed all Philadelphia sports teams. In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his daughters, Karen Kitchens of Downingtown, Lisa Ryan (Richard) of West Chester, and Candice Ciesielski (Mark) of Malvern; grandchildren, Brandon, Michael, Richard Thomas, Candy and Abigail; and brothers, Neil (Rose) McConnell of Hagerstown, Md., Jerry McConnell of Lewistown, Pa., and Mark (Maureen) McConnell of West Chester; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20th, at St. Joseph's Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtown. Interment is private.
