Edward Harold "Woody" Plank Obituary
Edward Harold "Woody" Plank of Chester County Edward Harold "Woody" Plank, died peacefully at home on May 19, 2012, at the age of 90. He was born in New Holland and was a resident of Chester County for over 60 years. Mr. Plank was a decorated veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps during WWll. He was a P.O.W. after his bomber plane was shot down while on a mission behind enemy lines. As a graduate of Penn State he was a member of the Alumni Association, the Alpha Zeta Agricultural Fraternity and loyal football fan who had season tickets at Beaver Stadium for many years. He was a general contractor by trade but also loved farming and hunting. At one time he had 125 acres in Chester County and over 800 acres in Bedford County. Interested in church, community and veteran affairs he was a faithful member and trustee of Hopewell United Methodist Church, past president of the board of directors of the First Financial Savings Bank, a member of the American Legion Post 0475 and VFW Post 845, both of Downingtown and a former West Brandywine Township Supervisor. He is survived by Norma Jean (nee McCausland) his beloved wife of 59 years; his loving children, Thomas E. (Shui Qiong Huang), Deborah Colantuono (Joseph) and William W. (Leanne Miller); his cherished grandchildren, Joseph, Tara, Jackson, Richie and Xiao You. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul and Clarence Plank and his sister, Reba Thompson. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 East Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335 and also from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at The Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Rd., Downingtown, PA. 19335 with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m in the Bower Chapel. Interment Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,contributions in his memory to the Hopewell United Methodist Church at the address above would be appreciated.
