Emily Jarvis Chatfield, formerly of Downingtown Emily Jarvis Chatfield, 35, of Woburn, Mass., formerly of Downingtown, died on Monday, July 8, 2013, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Emily was the wife of Jamie Chatfield and the mother of Kathleen Ella (Katie) Chatfield, age 5, of Woburn. She is also survived by her parents, Alan and Nancy Jarvis of Downingtown and her sister Amanda Jarvis of Phoenixville, an uncle, Arthur Jarvis, Jr. of Coatesville, an uncle and aunt, Jeffrey and Rosemary Warner of Corona, Calif. and one cousin, Heather Ferguson of Hemmet, Calif. Emily was a graduate of Villa Maria Lower School, Malvern, Downingtown Area Senior High School, Class of 1996, and the University of Delaware, class of 1999. At the time of her death, she was a sixth grade English teacher at the McCall Middle School, Winchester, Mass., where she was loved and respected by students, faculty, and staff. She began her teaching career at the Ni River Middle School in Fredericksburg, Va. While teaching, she attained a Master's degree in Children's Literature from Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. A lover of literature and a talented writer, Emily's thesis consisted of eighty original children's poems with which she had little difficulty in composing. Her humor was evident and her laugh infectious. She was also a determined individual, teaching until June 10, 2013 this past school year, in spite of her illness. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 13, at the First Congregational Church, Winchester, Mass., where Emily played in the hand bell choir.
