Obituary Condolences

Erna Bair of West Chester Erna Bair of West Chester, passed away after a brief illness on January 1st at the age of 91. Erna was the first girl newspaper carrier in her native Ardsley, N.Y. and achieved a 99%+ score on the New York State Regional exams resulting in commendations from the Governor and other dignitaries. As concertmaster of Ardsley High School (where she was also valedictorian) Orchestra, she played the violin until she lost most of her hearing. She attended Columbia University during the depression, moving to the Philadelphia area with her husband James, where they raised James Jr. and Barbara. She achieved recognition for her art work, exhibiting with both the Chester and Delaware County Art Associations. Her oil painting of a giant oil cracker was chosen from among more than a hundred submissions to travel to the state capitols in the country. She was also known for her language and writing skills - editing her son's books after they had been edited by publishers and finding additional improvements. She held many office management roles, retiring from Shuford Mills in Wayne. She is survived by siblings, Henry, Frieda, Bill, and Joanne as well as her children, Jim and Barbara and grandchildren Eric and Alyssa.
