Harold Eugene Miller of Kennett Square Harold Eugene Miller of Kennett Square,passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 4, 2013, at Crosslands. He was 84 years old. Harold was born in Lemoyne, Pa., the son of the late Nelson Miller and the late Cora Bruner Miller. He graduated from Dickinson University with a degree in history, completed military service in the U.S. Army and went on to obtain a master of arts degree in history from Penn State University. Harold's passion was teaching. He taught social studies for 35 years at Marple Newtown High School, chairing the department for much of that time. Following his retirement from Marple Newtown, he worked at Arch Street Friends Meeting in Philadelphia as a docent and head of the volunteer program for nine years. He especially enjoyed travel, reading, music, tennis, canoeing, and spending time with his two adoring grand-daughters. He was an active member of London Grove Friends Meeting until his declining health no longer permitted his attendance. Harold was the devoted father of three children, Deborah Miller (Tim Black) of Charlotte, N.C., Duane Miller (Inge Knudsen) of Barritt, Denmark, and Kirstie Wills (Chris) of Cochranville; beloved grandfather of Jennifer and Claire Black; brother of John Miller and his wife Betty; uncle of Forrust and Sherry Miller, Todd and Diane Miller, Craig and Lori Miller, Christopher and Shannon Miller and Kim and Pat McDermott. Also survived by many grand-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Crosslands and Neighborhood Health Hospice for their loving care of Harold and the family. Harold's memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12th, at London Grove Friends Meeting, 500 W. Street Rd., Kennett Square. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, Philadelphia Friends Yearly Meeting, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
