John Phillips Street of East Nantmeal John Street passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013 at the age of 67, lovingly surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Jane Young Street, and daughters Rachel Street and Erika Hopman. He is also survived by his sister, Hendrika Conlan. John was born in Philadelphia in 1946 to Edward P. Street and Hendrika DeVos. He attended Kimberton Farms School, the Taft School, and Episcopal Academy before earning a degree in philosophy with a minor in art from Ithaca College in 1968. After graduating, John taught school in Berlin, N.Y. and then Kimberton Farms School. He then started his real estate career at Colonial Mortgage Service Company, a division of PNB. After becoming assistant vice president, he left join David Marshall and Company. In 1980, John founded Allied Mortgage and Realty Corporation, which he led successfully up until the time of his death. His professional affiliations included the Mortgage Bankers' Association of America, the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia, and the Delaware Apartment Owners Association. John helped to found the Downingtown Historical Society, and served as a chairman of the Downingtown Planning Commission. He was a former board member of the French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust and the Pickering Hunt Club. John enjoyed shooting with the Valley Forge Gun Club and the Vintagers. He initiated a fundraising effort for the Junior Olympic Shooting Team and worked to raise money for Chasin' for Chalfin, a fund to help family friend Jake Chalfin with his injuries from a steeple chasing accident. John's other diverse hobbies included fox hunting, poetry, opera, motorcycles, fishing, travel, and wood-working. He was a founder of French Creek Imports, a wine importing venture. He enjoyed fireworks and bonfires with his neighbors, family, and friends. A gathering to remember John will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2014 at the Radnor Hunt Club, 826 Providence Rd., Malvern, PA 19355. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust (frenchandpickering.org) to help preserve the watershed along the French Creek; or to Chasin' for Chalfin (chasinforchalfin.com).
