Kevin R. Brophy, 56, passed away on June 13, 2012, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. |
Born in Reading, he was the son of Richard C. Brophy of Wyomissing Hills, Pa., and the late Ann Zerbe Brophy.
Kevin excelled in sports, especially football and wrestling, at Wyomissing Area High School.
He attended West Chester University and was a brother of Theta Chi fraternity.
He was an employee of Brandywine Ice Co. for many years.
He worked at United Parcel Service for 22 years and was recognized by the organization for heroism after saving the life of a woman and her infant son.
He was an avid and knowledgeable fan of all sports and a devoted follower of the Eagles and Phillies.
He enjoyed his family, fishing and gardening.
Known for his quick wit, sense of humor and tenacious spirit, Kevin was always on hand to help those in need.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Mary Colleen (nee Byrne); his son, Christopher of Point Pleasant, N.J.; and his sister, Erin Brophy, and his brother, Tim Brophy, both of Reading. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 18, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, (corner Hilltop Road), West Chester, followed by his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Ss. Simon & Jude Church, Route 352 and West Chester Pike, West Chester. Interment is private.
Donations in Kevin's name may be made to the Paoli Cancer Center, The Kevin Cain Memorial Foundation of Havertown, Pa., or Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester.
