May Hardy Kelley Bower of Downingtown May Hardy Kelley Bower, 88, of Downingtown and formerly of Elverson and Berwyn, died peacefully on May 23, 2012 at Simpson Meadows. May was born in Lancaster and was the daughter of the late Charles H. Hardy and Elizabeth Ford Pote. May graduated from Tredyffrin/Easttown High School in Berwyn and then went on to serve in the United States Ladies Marine Corps. May was a very giving person and when she wasn't helping others she participated in many different activities during her lifetime. She enjoyed square dancing, roller skating, camping, fishing, baking, gardening and being with people but most of all she loved being a mom, grandmom and homemaker. While living in Berwyn she was a long-time member of the Berwyn United Methodist Church where she was a leader of the adult fellowship group with her first husband the late Edward A. Kelley. She was also member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and the Berwyn Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary. May was the wife of the late Herbert Harrison Bower with whom she shared 23 years of marriage. After moving to Elverson, May and Harrison were very active in the Goodwill United Methodist Church in Elverson. May is survived by two children, Linda Kelley Wheeler (Donald) of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. and Thomas E. Kelley (Maureen) of Berwyn; three step-children, Dr. Barton K. Bower (Carol) of Nottingham, Lucinda B. Thero (Terry) of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dr. David H. Bower of Lafayette Hills, Pa.; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great-grand children and five step- great-grandchildren. May was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Harrison Bower and a sister Jean H. Hiester. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at the Goodwill United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Goodwill United Methodist Church, 104 Church Road, Elverson, PA 19520.
